DESERT HOT SPRINGS - Some residents who live across the Sahara Hotel in Desert Hot Springs said they are tired of seeing the dumpsters outside the property always overflowing with debris and the worn-out tires next to the palm trees.
"Usually there's big garbage bags hanging out, and it's a real attraction for dumpster divers," said Fran McQuinn, "Which they're out there every night."
This morning, a code enforcement officer from the Desert Hot Springs Police Department inspected the building as he walked along with the hotel's owner, Jeannie Yoon. He gave her a notice of violation for the lot behind her hotel which is full of dry branches, empty food containers, a couch, a mattress and other items. Yoon said no matter how much cleaning they do, the pile of trash always gets bigger and people dump items in her back lot.
The City said this was the first complaint they have gotten about the hotel. Now, Yoon has until the first week of September to clean up the lot behind the hotel, which she said she would clean up soon.
The front of the hotel did not violate any codes according to the code enforcement officer.
