PALM DESERT - Palm Desert resident Tom Rice is one of 25 semi-finalists for Redbooks “Hottest Husband of the Year”. "I’ve been told I’ve been good looking before,” says Tom. His wife, Lee, secretly submitted him to the competition. "I submitted him because I think he's hot. But it's really because he is beautiful inside and out. He's the best person, he has the best heart, he's a great friend and an amazing husband. He’s very thoughtful and thinks a lot about other people and that's what I adore about him,” says Lee.
Tom says part of the reason he understands women so well is because of his upbringing. "I was raised basically with five older sisters so that’s a plus, knowing what works with a woman and what doesn't,” says Tom.
Lee says there are a number of reasons her husband deserves the hottest husband title, but here are just a few. "I love his eyes because I love the way they look at me. I love his smile. I love his long legs. He's 6'5, I’m 5'1 so it's a bit of a stretch but I’ve always just loved his long legs. I know it sounds funny and he'll kill me for saying this,” says Lee.
She adds living with her dream man never gets boring. "It's endless fun with him and every day is something new,” says Lee.
Having a great personality is important but let’s face it, you can't win hottest husband of the year unless, well, you're hot-- and Tom makes sure he stays in shape. "I come from a big water family. My dad was a L.A. County lifeguard and fireman. I work the Bump n' Grind when it's cool enough. I work out in the gym,” says Tom.
His wife is obviously excited but for Tom's eleven-year old daughter Marley Rice, the term hottest husband is, well: "It's weird. It's really weird,” says Marley. It's also weird for his employees. "Of course, I’m getting a lot of flack from my guys. I run a construction crew so to have them vote is weird. They call Lee and they're like, do we really have to vote for him for hottest husband so, it's fun. We're getting a kick out of it,” says Tom.
Like all marriages, there is always a little arguing; but in this house, Tom says it doesn't last very long once he turns on the impressions. “She tries to get mad at me but I distract her with my Donald Duck voice,” says Tom as he does his impression. And of course, next to him is Lee laughing.
