PALM SPRINGS - Mac Magruder Chevrolet was once a thriving business on South Palm Canyon Drive, but for the last six years, it has sat vacant. It's in worn-out shape with strewn rubble and holed ceilings.
"It's an eyesore you know, I wish they would do something with it," said a Palm Springs resident, Anthony Blanco.
About three times a week, he passes the empty building on his bicycle and every day by car.
"I don't know why this isn't developed. This seems like the perfect place to put some new businesses and very close to downtown," said Blanco.
On the property, one can see fragments of broken stone and holed ceilings and walls. The building appears to be falling apart. A Palm Springs Police Department official said they have received several complaint calls on this property for the past year, and they gave out a citation for public drinking this May.
According to a business records search we did, the old car dealer's business license expired in 2007. We called the name on file with the Secretary of State, but that number didn't work. The most recent owner of the dealership, Dale Magruder, died in 2007.
So the question remains, who is responsible for this property?
We will keep you updated on this story.
In the meantime, residents who drive by this space hope it comes back to life one day.
"The car dealerships bring a lot of revenue for the cities, so it would be nice to for us to get it, you know, if they were going to put another car dealership here," shared Blanco.
