BEAUMONT - Winning the lottery is something many people dream of and for one lucky local resident, that dream has come true. At Ziggy's Spirit Shope in Beaumont, people came in by the droves to claim and/or buy lotto tickets because the winning Super Lotto ticket of $36 million was sold Wednesday. The winning numbers were 10, 22, 34, 37, 47 and 23. "Even in a town like Beaumont you could be a million dollar winner--- or a $36 million winner,” says owner of Ziggy's Spirit Shoppe Pooja Patel. "People have been going, oh, you're the lucky store,” says Patel.
Since news the winning ticket was sold at Ziggy’s, lotto buyers have rushed in to test their gambling luck. "I purchased some more tickets. I even added another four dollars to it,” says Beaumont resident Jose Ayala. "We came actually to buy some just because they have been very lucky here,” says Andrea Mecey. This isn't the first time Ziggy's has sold a winning lotto ticket. "We have paid out the Fantasy in like $500 and $600. We have a whole wall dedicated to those winners,” says Patel. She says it's not just Beaumont residents who have heard the news either. "They’re coming in from Lake Elsinore; coming in from Palm Desert, a few Cabazon people, Yucaipa and Redlands and even Riverside that come to visit family here know about us,” says Patel.
The winner has claimed the ticket but hasn't made an official appearance at the store. Lottery reps know the time and date the ticket was purchased and told Ziggy's who then reviewed their surveillance cameras in hopes of figuring out the winner. "It's a regular customer we think. If it's the right customer, it's someone who has come in quite a bit,” says Patel.
It's a lot of cash-- $36 million; a chunk of change customers say would change their lives. "We would buy an RV and go away, leave town,” says Mecey. "Since I married my wife, we haven't really ever done a vacation, so I would definitely put a vacation in there,” says Ayala.
