High-Rise Fire in LA Injures 10 Including Young Girl
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Officials say eight people, including a child in critical condition, have been taken to hospitals after a fire in a residential high-rise in Los Angeles.
Fire spokesman Brian Humphrey said Friday the injured people included three firefighters -- two with leg burns and one with an ear burn.
Other injuries involved smoke exposure.
The blaze was reported at 11:43 a.m. in a unit on the 11th floor of the 25-story Barrington Plaza on Wilshire Boulevard.
Heavy smoke and flames poured from the building as more than 200 firefighters responded.
The blaze was declared out in 71 minutes but firefighters continued to search the building.
Humphrey says some residents didn't evacuate.
The tower has about 700 people in nearly 400 units. Many weren't home.
