Firefighters Getting Upper Hand on Coachella Brush Fire

COACHELLA - Firefighters battle a brush fire in the east valley Thursday afternoon.
According to Riverside County Fire Department the one acre fire was reported around 1:50 p.m. at Avenue 52 and Tyler Street. It has now grown to 25 acres. Structures in the area of Highway 111 and Wallace Road are threatened.
So far no injuries have been reported.
KMIR6 News is on-scene and has learned the fire is moving Southeast towards Thermal.

Fire is now at 50 acres. The city of Coachella has opened a cooling center to assist people in the area.
The fire is now 90% contained and the actual acreage has been lowered to 31. Highway 111 between Tyler Street and Avenue 54 remains closed until fire crews deem the area safe.
