Woman Busted Smuggling Meth

SALTON CITY - U.S. Border Patrol Agents with the Indio Station stopped and arrested a woman smuggling drugs at the Highway 86 checkpoint Sunday.
According to agents, a 43-year-old female driver from Mexico, along with her 16-year-old son were stopped at the checkpoint. A drug sniffing canine was alerted by something in the car. A quick check of the 1998 Toyota Camry turned up 10.4 pounds of methamphetamine hidden under the back seat.
The meth had an estimated street value of $332,000. The female driver, a citizen of Mexico with a B1/B2 Visa, was taken into custody without incident. The driver, vehicle and contraband were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
