Tonight is the official start of Dinah Shore weekend. Thousands of women will be dancing the night away at the Zoso Hotel for the annual White Party.
The history of Dinah Shore, the celebrity, really has nothing to do with the current party. Dinah Shore was a talk show host and actress but she was also a huge supporter of women's golf and helped found the Kraft Nabisco Golf Tournament, an annual women’s golf tournament. Ironically, Dinah Shore wasn't even gay. For these girls, it doesn’t matter.
"It was time for a vacation and this was like perfect timing, you know what I mean,” says Los Angeles resident Maribel Garcia.
For some it was all about taking in the scenery.
"The desert is just gorgeous. We love the mountains. It's just so nice. It’s a different vacation,” says Brandie Serrano. She flew all the way in from Atlanta, Georgia.
For others, like comedian Fortune Feimster, it was all about unity and pride.
"It's nice to have an event that caters to lesbians. Even though it’s a fun party thing, it really brings the community together,” says Feimster.
"It's an opportunity for a lot of lesbians to come together as a whole and just celebrate being gay,” says New York resident Dashlee LeCores.
And while there was much celebrating going on, some folks took the opportunity to be a little more serious.
"It feels good when you living a lifestyle that’s not socially accepted and you have an event where people are doing what your doing and believing what you believing. It’s encouraging. It feels good,” says Brooklyn resident Ashley Rodriguez. She says her favorite event has been the pool party.
But at an event like this, the seriousness can only last so long and Feimster proves that very point.
"Tonight is the white party so I think I have one white t-shirt. That’s going to have to do because this body was not made for white pants,” adds Feimster.
