Cathedral City is interested in making Thousand Palms part of their city.
But some residents say not so fast, they'll try to block it.
One KMIR6 viewer tells us that he is creating a petition to try to stop Cathedral City from annexing the county area.
Other residents we spoke with have mixed feelings about joining Cathedral City.
Rosa Salazar owns Hairland Salon in Thousand Palms, and doesn't want her address changed to Cathedral City.
"I worry about the change of the taxes too, but I worry about a change in Thousand Palms because I like it the way it is," said Salazar.
But nine-year-resident, Doreen Soime, sees some positives.
"It might be a good thing since we're such a small community, it might bring in more revenue and more building, and I don't think the taxes will go up that much," said Soime.
Cathedral City says expansion would be a win-win for everyone.
"Facilitate budget expansion, provide services to our residents, economic opportunity and the community of Thousand Palms offers all that, plus the opportunity for us to help them," said Cathedral City Councilman Greg Pettis.
But some people in Thousand Palms say it just helps Cathedral City.
"I think that they just want us for their tax money, and they don't have much to offer us for what they want from us," said Thousand Palms resident, Charlene Grogan.
Pettis says they'll increase police patrols, add economic development and that taxes should remain comparable.
"Because they have some things that we don't currently collect, we hopefully will offset," said Pettis.
This isn't the first time a city has considered incorporating Thousand Palms, which is part of the county.
"Cathedral City is the most recent, and probably the most likely, the county's position is the will of the people is the bottom line," said Riverside County Supervisor John Benoit.
So Cathedral City plans to hold local meetings. to encourage Thousand Palms residents to make their communities one.
Councilman Pettis said they hope to send their application to annex Thousand Palms before the end of the year, but they haven't voted on it yet.
Meantime that viewer who wants to start the petition, says he will submit it to Cathedral City before they vote.
