There's a new Elvis in town and he has a whole new act.
Steve Connolly, AKA Elvis says it was a very special person who got him started on his Elvis career.
"My mother inspired me, she always wanted me to sing Heartbreak Hotel or Blue Suede Shoes and she would say to me ‘Please do an Elvis song’,” says Connolly.
He started out in the night clubs in Boston at a very young age but it was a producer friend that said not only do you sound like Elvis but you look like him too.
"I spend a lot of time listening to Elvis talking on the radio or telephone calls and listening to how he speaks,” says Connolly.
He has spent years traveling the world performing his act and has performed over 4,000 shows in Las Vegas.
In fact both Bill Clinton and Donald Trump call him the “best Elvis impersonator of all time”.
"People say Elvis died to young or only if Elvis had lived he might have done more but his body of work is remarkable,” says Connolly.
He says Palm Springs is the perfect area to have the show.
"There’s things about Elvis that are very Palm Springs,” says Connolly.
Connolly is also an artist so it's the first Elvis show ever to incorporate artwork and song.
"Of the hour and a half show I do this portrait (of Elvis) in ten minutes... While singing!,” says Connolly.
Now, its true Connolly is a talented man but, like Elvis, he remains humble. And much like Elvis, Connolly prays.
"I ask god, I say God please give me the voice to sing and the ears to hear and if the spirit of Elvis is up there and you see it in your power to have me be a conduit to Elvis… and I kind of take that as a sense that I have his blessing,” says Connolly.
You can continue to see the show throughout the summer. Tickets are $25 and $35 before Easter; they go up after that. This Saturday is singles night at the show. They say they’re expecting a full house.
