PALM DESERT- Palm Desert holds its annual Food and Wine Fest starting today. This years theme is a Taste of Italy. Ten celebrity chef’s a day are preparing demos and over 100 wines are being poured. Palm Springs resident Joelle Stambridge says events like the Food and Wine Festival Palm Desert do a lot to give the desert a great name.
"There is probably a lot more out of towners than we think, so it’s great for them to experience the Valley in a different light other than sitting by the swimming pool and having a beverage,” says Stambridge.
She says it just adds to the already excellent way of life for people here in the valley.
"I feel like the desert has a lot of wonderful things to offer but this is probably one of the most fabulous things,” says Stambridge.
So fabulous, in fact, that ticket sales are up 40% from last year.
Executive Producer of the event Jeff Hocker says they have brought in five culinary newcomers from the valley into the festival.
"This is the best of the best in the Coachella Valley and California. Our chef’s have been flown in from eight different states. We really want to make this a destination event,” says Hocker.
He says there is one other piece to the sucess of the festival.
"A lot of it has to do with the partners we brought in, you know we bring in sponsors like U.S. Food and Viking who also bring different vendors with them,” says Hocker.
And back at the table, Joelle is excited about something else.
"They’ve put the recipes in our gift bags to-go. So I’ll take a look at them and see how I feel about cooking them at home,” says Stambridge.
