PALM DESERT-- A rapid increase in autism cases over the past few decades, has led experts to dig deeper into the cause. Autism affects more than 2 million people in the U.S., and is more common than juvenile diabetes, AIDS and cancer, combined.
Dozens gathered at Cal State San Bernardino's Palm Desert campus to hear autism expert, Danelle Hodge speak. In her lecture Hodge addressed how to detect autism in your child.
Not responding to ones name is one of the early warning signs. Another is if your child seems more interested in playing alone than with others," says Hodge.
If you fear your child could have early signs of autism, Hodge says its never too soon to take your child to their pediatrician for an evaluation.
