A mystery piece of metal ended up in one local woman's Thanksgiving turkey.
Harriet Glackler says she's been keeping the turkey with the metal frozen for weeks, so one day she could find out how the silver capsule wound up lodged inside her turkey.
"I kept slicing the turkey and that's when we came up with the metal piece we thought was a bullet casing," said Glackler.
It was a puzzling discovery for Glackler as she wondered how a bullet could have possibly found its way into her turkey. She turned to the local market where the Jennie-O turkey came from for answers, and they suggested it was something off the conveyer belt.
Glackler called KMIR6 to investigate. We reached out to Jennie-O, and right away they knew what the piece of metal was. It turns out, it wasn't the companies fault. The capsule came from the meat thermometer Glacker used to cook the turkey.
The Jennie-O representative said that it is a common problem. Customers call in describing bullet looking piece of metal in their meat, only to find out its part of the tip of their thermometer.
Glacker says she'll keep eating Jennie-O products. The only thing she'll quit cold turkey: using the thermometer.
"I'll go by my instinct...It's done... Dinner's ready," she said.
