PALM DESERT--Is the popular media putting an un-needed scare into people? Remember the build up to Y2K? Or are some people really thinking that Friday is the be all-end all day of days?
As the countdown to doomsday grows closer, some people are prepping, others getting ready to party, and officials from NASA are assuring all people on Earth that December 22nd will come.
"I do not believe that the world is going to end this week but I am prepared if it does," Survival Prepper, Brittany Rose Tribulski said.
Brittany Rose is a self-proclaimed prepper. Be it biblical or just your run of the mill earthquake, she's ready for disaster.
"The point of preparing is that you're preparing for anything. To be prepared you have to know that there's all these things that you don't know so you try to take into consideration all the things that could be possible," Tribulski said.
She and others are turning to stores like Off The Grid in Palm Desert to stock up on survival supplies.
"I prepare yes. It's kind of like car insurance. You never know when you're going to need it so i'd rather have it then not have it at all," Survival Prepper Ernie Baca said.
Dave is the general manager at Off The Grid. He says sales are up. In part because of the rumors surrounding Friday's catastrophic calamity, but more so because people are preparing for real life, real disaster, and real survival.
"The 22nd will come and people do need to be prepared. Whether it's a solar flare which has happened to us in the past so it's not a what if scenario, or maybe it's kind of like our earthquake situation here, it's not if, it's when," The General Manager of Off The Grid said.
Even NASA is weighing in. They released a video to clear up any confusion about the unraveling of civilization.
"Wanted to show people that NASA is confident that the world will not be ending on December 22nd," Michael Brody, Multimedia Producer for NASA said.
Nasa scientists say there's no evidence to support doomsday. No rogue planet headed for Earth. No polar shift. Just another day.
If you're worried about the Mayan calendar ending December 21st, there's good news, NASA says like our calendar, the Mayan calendar is cyclical, so when one ends another one starts.
