Californians Say "Yes" to Education Funding and "No" to GMO Labeling

CREATED Nov. 7, 2012

PALM DESERT - Out of 11 different California propositions, only five passed.

Proposition 30, the Governor's initative that will block a $6 billion cut to schools, passed with 53 percent of the vote. Its rival initative, Proposition 38 also an education funding measure was rejected.

Californians voted down the measure that would have required companies to label certain genetically engineered foods. The measure was projected to win, but after a long and well-funded ad campaign by the No on Prop 37 group, supported by big corporation like Monsanto and Coca Cola, Prop 37 lost with 46 percent of the vote.

The death penalty is still on the books in California. 52 percent of voters turned down the initative that would have repealed the death penatly.
