American Pride Strolled Down El Paseo

CREATED Oct. 28, 2012

PALM DESERT- It was a stroll down America's memory lane, at the 48th annual Palm Desert Golf Cart parade. Cart after cart was decorated like iconic American symbols for this year's "American-Pride" theme parade. Carts included one made to be a military tank, another like Mount Rushmore and another like space shuttle Endeavor.

"My favorite float was probably the NASA one, the stuff coming out of the back it was really cool," said spectator Bennett Haley.

Desert Arc's "Mayflower" float won the sweepstakes trophy.

"They spent six or seven weeks putting this thing together, if you saw it it was actually designed like a real ship. It was gorgeous," said Mitch Blumberg, Executive Director for Desert Arc.

Marching bands, dancers and cyclists also joined the parade.

"I thought it would just be like standard golf carts, but it was something totally different," said spectator Grace Harris.

It was a different kind of American tradition, where electric powered wheels rule the road.
