Soliciting in Cathedral City

CREATED Sep. 26, 2012

CATHEDRAL CITY-- Cathedral City is cracking down on solicitors outside of banks and businesses. Council members say some claim to be raising money for local charities, but the city hasn't seen a dime of it.

Under the new ordinance, solicitors must be at least 30 feet away from the front door of a business or bank, instead of 15 feet. If a solicitor breaks the law, the penalty would also rise from an infraction to a misdemeanor, and fines will range from one hundred to one thousand dollars.

No final decision was made tonight. It will be on the next Cathedral City Council agenda, where they will vote for approval.
