PALM SPRINGS - Emergency crews reopened a section of North Indian Canyon Drive in the Whitewater Wash area in Palm Springs after assessing the potential of flooding.
The road was reopened shortly after 10 p.m.
Police received a call just before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday from a Mission Springs Water Agency employee regarding a possible water levee break, north of SR111, east of North Indian Canyon Drive, according to Palm Springs Police Sgt. Mike Kovaleff. Police say they were notified that a levee break could cause significant flooding across North Indian Canyon Drive.
As a precautionary measure, North Indian Canyon Drive was closed in both directions in the Whitewater Wash area, between Garnet Avenue and Tramview Road.
Coachella Valley Water District responded to the location and determined that the overflow was contained by an emergency dike and a levee had not broken. The overflow was contained in the open desert area within the windmill farms and did not affect North Indian Canyon Drive.
