By Adrianna Weingold. CREATED Jun 30, 2012

DESERT HOT SPRINGS--One man is dead after a shooting at an apartment complex in Desert Hot Springs. Police were called to the scene at just before 9 p.m. Friday. They found 46-year-old Ronald Locke with gunshot wounds. Locke was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead.

Neighbors say it started as an argument and ended in a deadly shooting. Gunshots rang out at Casa Azteca, a small apartment complex in the hills of Desert Hot Springs.

People living in the apartment complex where Locke was shot and killed say they heard commotion, but were reluctant to talk about what happened on camera.

"All I know is there was an argument. I don't know anything. I really don't," an anonymous neighbor in the complex said.

According to police, the gunman initially fled the scene, but surrendered to authorities a short time later. 36-year-old La Von Meyers, a resident of Desert Hot Springs, was booked for murder and is being held at the Larry Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.

"It makes me think twice about where I want to raise my kids," said neighbor, Peter North.

Residents in this Desert Hot Springs neighborhood are now on edge, fearful violence is coming too close to home.

"It's kind of scary because you think you live safe in your house but you don't know if you can be safe in your house now," said nieghbor Giovanni Perez.

"It's dangerous. Yeah. Because I haven't seen anything up here like that. Down in town, yeah, but up here on the hill, no," said neighbor Yesenia.

Police say the shooting is not gang related. No word yet on how the two men knew each other.
