America Honors the Stars and Stripes Today

CREATED Jun. 14, 2012

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Today is Flag Day -- the day in 1777 when Congress officially adopted the Stars and Stripes.

And in Philadelphia, there's a new generation of seamstresses responsible for hand-embroidering all of the nation's presidential flags.

They work at a military supply operation less than 10 miles from the historic Betsy Ross house.

Here in the Coachella Valley there will be a Flag Day celebration at 5 p.m. in Cathedral City. The event will include a tribute to all the American Flag designs used up to date, plus special musical tribute.

The event begins at 5 p.m. at the Civic Center Park, located in front of Cathedral City Hall at 68700 Avenida Lalo Guerrero.
