Police say charges will be filed against a teenager who struck eight of his classmates in front of Hemet High School.
One of the students, a 15-year-old girl, remains hospitalized with serious head injuries.
Police say 30 students were crossing the street last week when the driver ran a red light in his truck.
California Highway Patrol says 18-year-old Daniel Carrillo was speeding over 50 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour school zone.
"This is not an accident, it is a traffic collision, traffic collisions are avoidable, and we do believe there is negligence as far as his driving that contributed to this incident," said Officer Darren Meyer with California Highway Patrol.
It was a horrifying scene last week with eight students rushed to the hospital.
"I heard it, like everyone screaming, and we went over there, and all the cops showed up, everyone was freaking out and crying," said Hemet H.S. sophomoore, David Patke.
Tryston Rathburn's stepfather ran over to help.
"He's really traumatized because he had to sit there and hold her down and hear her scream, and he had all of her blood on his hands and everything, and it was really scary," said Rathburn, a Hemet High School student.
Another girl, 15-year-old Helen Richardson, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
"It makes me really sad knowing that his girlfriend is in critical condition, and I really hope she is doing okay," said Rathburn.
Police say she is showing positive signs.
"She seems to be getting better and better each day, we can only hope for a full recovery," said Officer Meyer.
CHP says Carrillo failed to stop at the red light.
"The student hasn't retracted his statement, he sticks by his story that his brakes failed."
Police did a full mechanical inspection of the truck.
"We've determined that the mechanical condition of the truck was not a contributing factor to the crash," said Officer Meyer.
Highway Patrol and the District Attorney's Office will decide what charges Daniel Carrillo will face for the crash.
