Attempted Kidnapping Puts Palm Desert Neighborhood on Alert
PALM DESERT - Riverside County Sheriff's deputies and Palm Desert Police are warning the public of a possible predator following an attempted abduction Thursday.
Police say a man who tried to kidnap a woman in Palm Desert remained on the loose.
The attempted abduction happened about 7:20 p.m. Thursday on Fred Waring Drive east of Cook Street. The victim told investigators she was approached by a man driving an older-model gray van.
Police say the suspect left his parked vehicle, approached the victim and asked her if she wanted a ride. The woman refused and then she said the man grabbed her by the arm and tried pulling her toward him. The woman was able to break free and run away from the man to call police.
The victim describes the suspect as a white man in his 40s, about 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9, with a stocky build.
