THERMAL--An elderly man from Salton City has been missing for 2 days, his family fears for the worst.
Ginger Achille last saw her 87-year-old father Saturday morning. Now, more than 48 hours later there's still no sign of Jim Baker.
"He's very very frail. He can;t walk more than 5 feet maybe 10 feet. He would not be able to survive for any length of time out in the desert," said missing elderly man's daughter Ginger Achille.
Now Ginger and her son are mobilizing their own search effort. Renting a private helicopter to canvas the desert from above for any sign of the missing man.
"We don't know. We don't have much else to go on. There's nobody returning to the hospitals. No car has been turned in anywhere. There's no activity on bank statements, credit cards, nothing," said the missing man's grandson, Jim Paulon.
Jim says his grandfather is physically frail but mentally sharp and wouldn't wander off without telling someone. The 87-year-old doesn't drive at night and would never leave his 5 animals at home alone at night either.
"Even, an hour or two late is very suspicious, it's now 48 hours and we haven't heard from him," Paulon said.
Imperial County Sheriffs were notified Saturday when Baker didn't show up for a family gathering. Ginger says his 2008 white Toyota Scion is also missing.
"I've checked the credit card accounts, bank accounts, that type of thing. None of them have been activated or utilized in any way which also leads me to believe that my father never reached the destination that he had planned to go to," Achille said.
Sheriffs say they did a ground and air search Sunday, but didn't find anything. The chopper search Monday was also unsuccessful.
If you know anything about Jim Baker's whereabouts please call the police immediately.
