State Fish and Game Officials Considering Fines for Trail Violators
PALM DESERT - The fight over access to the popular Bump and Grind Hiking Trail is heating up again. California's Department of Fish and Game says if necessary it will issue citations to hikers who cross a gate at the top of the trail in Palm Desert. The amount of the citations would be determined by the courts.
The threat of being fined doesn't sit well with those who use the trail. The gate is a barrier aimed at protecting the endangered bighorn sheep that reportedly graze along the upper trail. The gate was installed back in June and restricts access to the last half mile of the trail.
Local Assemblyman Brian Nestande introduced a bill in hopes of forcing state officials to remove the barricade and reopen the entire trail.
