I-10 Public Forum This Thursday
CREATED Mar. 7, 2012
RANCHO MIRAGE - This Thursday, March 8, Asm. V. Manuel Pérez (D-Coachella), together with Asm. Brian Nestande (R-Palm Desert), will host a public forum on I-10 traffic issues. The event will be held at the Rancho Mirage Public Library from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
All are invited to attend this event featuring presentations by California Department of Transportation District 8 Director Ray Wolfe and CHP representatives from San Gorgonio Pass and Indio. They will describe the events that led to the unfortunate traffic back-up that left motorists stranded for hours on Sunday, February 12, and discuss what measures are being taken to prevent such an incident from re-occurring.
"People still have unanswered questions from last month's terrible traffic jam on the I-10 corridor," said Pérez. "Thursday's forum will enable community members to hear directly from Caltrans and the CHP about changes being made and to discuss options for improving that corridor to handle emergency situations."
"The I-10 corridor is unique in that there are portions of the highway that have no off ramps for commuters to exit in emergency situations. This incident has shown that there needs to be more coordination among agencies and the parties involved," said Nestande. "There are emergency plans in place to alert the public, but they were not executed."
