Giant Boulder's Trek to LA Museum Hits A Snag

CREATED Mar. 2, 2012

DIAMOND BAR (AP) - A 340-ton rock headed for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art from a Riverside quarry halted two miles short of its scheduled stop early today in Diamond Bar.

Movers say the transmission in its transporter became balky as it approached a hill. An extra engine will be brought in when it resumes its journey tonight.

The rock is headed to Los Angeles to become the centerpiece of earth artist Michael Heizer's "Levitated Mass."

Because of its size it can only be moved a few miles each night. Its premature stop Friday blocked one lane of traffic.
