Prostitution Ringleader Sentenced to Nine Years Behind Bars
INDIO - The man behind the operation of a multi-state sex for money business based in Palm Springs was sentenced Friday to nine years in prison.
Ofer Moses Lupovitz, an Israeli national, was convicted in October, 2011 of conspiracy and pimping in connection with his ownership of the Elite escort service. Authorities busted up the operation in 2006.
Prosecutors argued the prostitution ring employed as many as 200 women providing sexual services in California, Arizona and Oregon. Lupovitz, 49, was acquitted of one count of pandering. After the trial, he pleaded guilty to 151 money laundering counts. Lupovitz was indicted in November 2008 with six others, three of whom were also convicted. Three other suspects remain fugitives.
Lupovitz still faces trial on six tax-related charges.
