Tour de Palm Springs this Weekend

CREATED Feb. 8, 2012

PALM SPRINGS -Tour de Palm Springs, presented by CVSPIN, will be held Saturday, February 11, 2012 with festivities beginning Friday, February 10.  Nearly 10,000 cyclists of all levels, from recreational pleasure to advanced, will join the ride to raise money for Valley Charities.

Local resident Tim Esser, created the famous Tour de Palm Springs which has become one of the largest bicycle ride events in the county.  With nearly 10,000 participants from out of the immediate Palm Springs area, this event is also one of the largest to impact local tourism.

With a variety of cyclist levels there are 5, 10, 25, 55 and 100 mile routes with food and water stops along the way.  For those without wheels, local bike shops Fun Seekers, Big Wheel tours, and Tri-A-Bike, offer bike rentals.

All Valley charities are able to receive funds from the event by signing up with CVSPIN.  Last year $225,000 was raised and distributed to 118 organizations.

The tour moves back downtown this year with an amazing vendor expo including bike retailer booths, food, entertainment and more - open to the public. Nearly 1,000 volunteers support the event - from the ride to the Expo - with festivities beginning on Friday the 10th through the end of the ride on Saturday the 11th.

"We are thrilled to be back downtown this year knowing that the thousands of participants and attendees has a great impact on tourism in Palm Springs, including drawing from the 10,000 riders - and additional family and friends - to  local restaurants and retailers," states Bob Leidner, President of C.V.S.P.I.N. "We also have added a vibrant Tour de Jazz to the celebrations, enhancing the food, entertainment and retail expo area."
