UPDATE: Toddler Killed In Coachella Drive-by Shooting
COACHELLA - A toddler, believed to be two-years-old, has died from injuries sustained during a drive-by shooting Wednesday night in Coachella. The boy's name is Elijah Banuelos of Perris, according to a statement released by the Riverside County Coroner's Office. Two adult men were also injured in the shooting.
The shots rang out around 7:23 P.M. Wednesday. Officers from the Coachella Police Department responded to the 84-000 block of Redondo Sur, Coachella following a report of a shooting. Upon arrival officers learned three subjects were victims of a drive-by shooting; two adult males and a two-year-old male child.
One of the males received minor injuries and did not require further medical attention. The other male had non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The two-year-old child was immediately transported to John F. Kennedy Hospital and later transferred to Loma Linda Hospital where he died.
Officers from the Indio Riverside County Sheriff's Station and the Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit are investigating the shooting. No arrests have been made.
The Coachella neighborhood was quiet Thursday morning. Many residents there told KMIR6 that they are afraid to talk about the violence happening in their area.
