Major Closures Along I-10
DESERT HOT SPRINGS- Caltrans is planning closures on I-10 this week, and drivers should buckle up for some traffic delays and detours.
"Pay attention to the signs, slow down when you get off the freeway, because we are almost there," said Dennis Green, spokesperson with the Coachella Valley Corridor Improvement Projects (CVC Projects).
All lanes off Westbound I-10 will close at Palm Drive this Tuesday and Wednesday from 9pm to 4am. Detours will take drivers off the ramp then across the overcrossing and then back on to the freeway. On Wednesday and Thursday between 9pm and 4am that detour will go into effect for the Eastbound lane.
"I will stay away from it. It's going to help the whole area. I'm waiting for it to be finished, so closing up for a couple of days is very important," Helen Newman, Desert Hot Springs.
CVC Projects set out to build wider ramps along the ten to attract more businesses. The entire projects will be finished late spring early summer.
The projects are costing taxpayers around $17 million and some local businessowners say it's costing them too.
"My business is down 60 percent, that's how much freeway traffic was bringing into my station," said Victor Khouri, who owns a gas station that was off the Ramon exit, but now that Ramon exit is closed and a new Bob Hope exit is open.
But the CVC says many business have wanted these changes.
"As we go on there are other developers that are just waiting for the bridges to be complete so they can handle the additional traffic for their developements," said Green.
In six weeks construction will start on the Indian Canyon bridge.
