Palm Springs International Film Festival Brings Big Business
The 23rd annual Palm Springs International Film Festival is just days away.
And the big names coming this year could mean big business for the area.
Hotels, restaurants and stores are rolling out the red carpet in anticipation of this year's film festival.
130,000 people are expected to attend between January 5th to the 16th.
The stars will shine in Palm Springs this weekend.
"I know this will be the biggest film festival ever," said Julius Kazen, the Palm Springs Hospitality Association President and the Vice-chair of the Convention Visitor's Authority.
Bringing Hollywood to the desert for the Palm Springs International Film Festival means big business.
Owner of Zin American Bistro, Mindy Reed says, "We look forward to the film festival coming into town every year because A its a bunch of fun people but it definitely has a great impact for lunch, dinner and late night dining."
At the Ace Hotel, big plans with an after party every night for the film fest.
"We are actually looking at better year over year this year at the festival, we are doing official after fests, so in addition to the regular business that we have, a lot of people coming out to watch the films, we have a lot of filmakers staying here, and then coming back afterwards to have drinks and hang out," said Jason Dibler, Ace Hotel and Swim Club general manager.
And Hotel Zoso's front office manager, Raul Rodriguez, says, "We are almost fully committed."
And this year's festival comes after a very merry holiday season indeed.
"Holiday season was our best ever," said Dibler.
"This holiday weekend was definitely spectacular, best we've ever had," said Reed.
"Definitely much better than last year, we were actually fully committed during the week right before Christmas, after Christmas and it's been a great holiday season," said Rodriguez.
Now more reason to cheer in the new year; the two-week long festival fills almost 3,000 hotel rooms.
And the Palm Springs Hospitality president says its a big boost to hotels, restaurants, and publicity.
"The exposure I believe its a couple billion impressions that we get, we couldn't even come close to affording that kind of marketing, and its right before season starts, so the name of Palm Springs is on people's lips from coast to coast and overseas," said Kazen.
This week brings a star-filled start to the new year.
And the Palm Springs Hospitality Association president also told us close to 2,000 people will be attending this year's Black Tie Award's Gala.
