Indio - An early morning standoff in Indio leaves one man in the
hospital and his cousin in jail.

It started as fight between cousins and ended in gunfire.

Police say Anthony Araiza and his cousin were fighting over his car
early Sunday morning when he opened fire and shot his cousin.

It happened around 7:30 Sunday morning at the Park View Apartment
Complex on the 82500 block of Miles Avenue in Indio. Police say the
fight escalated and that's when Anthony Araiza  shot his cousin in the
leg with a rifle.

"Our officers set up a perimeter. We asked Riverside County Sheriff's
Department to assist us in the perimeter," Indio Police Department
Public Information Officer, Ben Guitron said. "We tried to secure the
area because at this point in time in the morning we have a lot of
churches downtown and church services are going on so we were
concerned about that. At the same time we're also assessing any threat
or further immediate danger to the people inside the apartment complex

Police evacuated the surrounding apartments. They arrested Araiza
about 3 hours after the shooting. Araiza was booked into Indio Jail
for attempted murder.

The victim, whose name is not being released was treated at Desert
Regional Medical Center and released.
