Thanksgiving is just hours away and that big holiday feast can cost hundreds of dollars.
We sent kmir6's Adrianna Weingold to Albertsons today to see if she could buy a thanksgiving meal for a family of 5 with just 100 dollars.
I didn't know if I could pull it off, the turkey alone cost 20 dollars, but with some guidance from store managers I jumped right in to bargain hunting.
Our mission today...buy a holiday meal for a family of 5 with 100 dollars, hopefully I can do it for a lot less, I have my money and my list, lets go.
I have a lot to buy and not a lot of time today so it's straight to the dairy case. I consult manager Pete Rodriguez about the best deals.
Next it's on to the butter
And sour cream
Then we head over to cranberries
And green beans
Now its time for the most important part of the meal, the turkey. Because its only 24 hours until Thanksgiving we need to buy a fresh turkey because there's no time to defrost one...Pete shows me the weight and price of the turkey's...We decide a 15 pound turkey is more than enough
Then on to some dinner rolls
Finally its on to my favorite...Dessert
It's time to check out...And the final total...52.17, way under our budget.
By shopping smart, looking for the lowest price, and using our club card, we managed to save 28 dollars...All this food going to a very deserving family, the Murray's, dad lost his job and mom supports their three children...KMIR 6 is so very happy to be able to help the Murray's this Thanksgiving.
