Twentynine Palms Marine Killed In Afghanistan
TWENTYNINE PALMS - The United States Marine Corps is mourning the loss of one of their own.
Corporal Zachary C. Reiff , 22, of Preston, Iowa., died Nov. 21, of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device while conducting a dismounted patrol in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was an anti-tank missileman assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, based at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, Calif.
Reiff began serving in the Marine Corps, December 9, 2008. This was his second deployment to Afghanistan.
His personal service awards include the Purple Heart with gold star device, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with bronze star device.
Earlier this week, military officials announced the death of Lance Cpl. Joshua D. Corral, 19, of Danville, California. Cpl. Corral was killed in combat on November 18 in Afghanistan.
