Downtown Indio Revitalization Project

INDIO - Demolition began Wednesday on the former Greyhound Bus Station marking the beginning of the construction of the new College of the Desert Indio Educational Center/East Valley Campus.

After the demolition is complete the City's Redevelopment Agency will finalize utility plans and begin the necessary public infrastructure for that area of the downtown.

When complete, the new COD Indio Educational Center/ East Valley Campus will have a 40,000 square-foot, 4-story educational facility on 2.74 acres of land.

The school, located at 45-224 Oasis Street, will accommodate approximately 3,000 students.

The center will be comprised of:

  • Retail Lease Space
  • Ten Classrooms
  • Multi-Purpose Space
  • Two Laboratories
  • Active Learning Lab
  • Administrative Spaces
  • Student and Staff Lounges
  • Interactive Spaces I Student Gathering Areas

According to city officials, this $25 million investment into Downtown Indio for the creation of the Indio Education Center is a game changing event for the city's revitalization efforts. They hope to spur future development and economic activity for the area that will increase job opportunities and enhance our community.

The current Greyhound Bus Station has moved to its permanent location at the Indio Transportation Center site and it is using a temporary facility, on Indio Boulevard and Jackson Street, to operate.
