Betty Ford's Body in Michigan for 2nd Service
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) -- The public is filing through the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids to view the body of former first lady Betty Ford.
About 200 people had gathered Wednesday evening awaiting the motorcade and hearse carrying Ford's body and her family from a Kent County airport where they earlier arrived following a service in California.
A private memorial service was held at the Grand Rapids museum prior to the public viewing.
Caryn Wilson waited to attend the viewing and remembers how active Betty Ford had been in the breast cancer awareness and equal rights for women.
A national tribute service is set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Grace Episcopal Church.
Betty Ford's body will be interred late Thursday at the museum along with her husband.
