The Body of Former First Lady Betty Ford Leaves the Valley
PALM SPRINGS - The body of former first lady Betty Ford was flown to Michigan, where she will be buried next to her husband, Gerald R. Ford.
The body was transported from St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Palm Desert to Palm Springs International Airport in a motorcade along Highway 74 and Highway 111.
Coachella Valley residents lined up along the route to pay final respects.
The former first lady died Friday at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage at the age of 93.
Ford's body was flown by military aircraft from Palm Springs to Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids, Michigan, then transported to the Gerald R. Ford Museum, where she will be buried next to her husband, Gerald R. Ford.
