Lots of Rain

A warm front will move through the region on Saturday night and Sunday, bringing cloudy, mild, breezy, and wet weather with it. Any elevation above 7000 feet will be safe from the rain and will get quite a lot of snow, but below that elevation (where everybody lives) rain can be expected at some point in the next 24 hours.

The Treasure Valley will see rain on Saturday night and Sunday as well. Chances for precipitation around Boise and Meridian on Sunday will be around 80 percent while around Ontario and Weiser the chance is only about 50 percent. Temperatures will be warmer around Boise and Meridian with highs in the mid 50s while highs around Ontario and Weiser will only reach the upper 40s.

The west-central and south-central mountains should see about half a foot to a foot of snow on Saturday night, but warm air will build into the region changing the precipitation to rain (except above 7000 feet) for much of the day on Sunday. The mountains will be a sloppy mess prone to avalanches on Sunday. I would not recommend a ski trip on Sunday.

A cold front will dive back across the region on Sunday night, but most of the moisture will be east of here by the time it arrives. This means that we will see a few snow showers Sunday night and Monday in the mountains, but little additional accumulation is expected. Rain will taper off by sunrise on Monday in the Treasure Valley. Temperatures will be cooler, with highs in the mid 40s for the first full day of winter and we should see some sunshine peaking through the clouds.

Another cold front will move through the region on Wednesday night bringing rain showers which could change to snow showers by Christmas morning. No accumulation is expected, however, so a white Christmas is unlikely at this point. Temperatures will be cooler for the rest of the week, with highs in the mid 30s for the Treasure Valley and lows in the 20s.
