Twins born 24 days apart thriving

By Phyllis Stark. CREATED Jun 12, 2014

A set of twins has been born at Boston’s Tufts Medical Center 24 days apart.

WCVB Boston reports that doctors performed a rare surgery to save both children, and “both boys are thriving after a rare and risky delayed delivery that has exceeded every expectation.”

The mother Linda DaSilva, initially went into labor just 24 weeks into her pregnancy. “Doctors at Tufts tried to stop the contractions. But four days later, a very premature Alexandre was born” and put in intensive care.

Then doctors told the parents they were going to try to keep the other twin in the womb. They were successful, and Alexandre’s brother Ronaldo was born 24 days later, weighing a full pound more than his older brother, WCBV reports.
