The Vandals' first scrimmage of the Paul Petrino era begins at 10am PT on Saturday, and it could be a make-or-break affair for the University of Idaho's quarterbacks.
Thanks to Dominique Blackman's dismissal from the program, Idaho once again has an opening under center. Coeur D'Alene graduate Chad Chalich has been painted as the front-runner in the QB competition after a strong showing in spring. He headlines a group that includes returning senior Taylor Davis and junior college transfer Josh McCain.
Petrino isn't ready to name a starter. Instead, he's going to let the Vandals' three scrimmages do that for him.
"I think the number one thing a quarterback is... Is just whoever can get you into the end zone the most, that's really what it comes down to," explained Petrino. "We'll have long scrimmages, and whoever can get us into the end zone the most is going to be our quarterback."
