One of the predominant storylines at the Mountain West Media Days last year was the Broncos' and Aztecs' imminent departure for the Big East. As it turned out, the turf was not bluer on the other side, and both schools elected to stay in the Mountain West.
"I think it’s a good fit. I think it’s great for our fans," explained coach Chris Petersen. "I think there’s a lot of history built up with these teams. Whatever league we’ve ever been in, we’ve seemed to play them quite often."
Starting this season, the Broncos are a member of the conference’s Mountain Division, a group comprised of BSU, Utah State, Air Force, Wyoming, Colorado State and New Mexico.
"I’m really disappointed Boise State is in our division. You've got to feel sorry for the New Mexico Lobos," joked New Mexico coach Bob Davies. "How can you put Boise State in a division with the New Mexico Lobos?"
"I missed 'em for about a month," laughed Wyoming coach Dave Christensen.
The Mountain West will host its first championship game this December.
