According to InterMat, the Boise State wrestling program will start the season ranked 20th in the country, trailing only Oregon State amongst Pac-12 teams. The Broncos held their first official practice Thursday afternoon.
BSU boasts three returners that competed at the NCAA Championships last year, including seniors Jake Swartz and J.T. Felix. Both are ranked 5th nationally in their respective weight classes, higher than any other wrestlers in the conference.
"By the end of the year, we want ten guys ranked there," said head coach Greg Randall. "That means a lot of guys have to step up, and you're counting on younger athletes to be able to do that."
"When I came into this program, we were top notch. We took kind of a step back and had to make some adjustments and change things we were doing," explained Felix. "I think the reality is starting to set in that now it's time to get serious."
Boise State will open its home slate against Wyoming on Friday, November 15.
