It seems like it's only a matter of time before the Northwest League changes the meaning of the acronym "RBI" from "Runs Batted In," to "Runs Balaguert'ed In."
Hawks outfielder Yasiel Balaguert has been named the Northwest League player of the week, thanks to a stretch in which the Havana native went 8-for-23 with three home runs and nine RBI.
Yasiel's statistics rank among the best in all of Short Season Class-A baseball. His 22 RBI leads not just the Northwest League, but all of the short season leagues. Yasiel's four home runs are tops in the Northwest and second overall. His slugging percentage (.576) is third-best, and his OPS (.948) is fifth.
Balaguert entered Monday's game against first-place Salem-Keizer riding a five-game hitting streak.
