The College of Idaho women's team impressed at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Wesleyan University Thursday, advancing three athletes to Saturday's medal round.
Hillary Holt won the first 1,500-meter heat, recording the fastest time of the day (4:38.52). Sora Klopfenstein won the second of two preliminaries in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking a time of 11:06.88.
Jasmine Sibert will also compete on Saturday, after qualifying for the last spot in the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.01).
In the men's competition, Austin Basterrechea set three personal bests (and a new College of Idaho record in the long jump) to take the lead in the decathlon through five events. The junior then won the 1,500-meter in commanding fashion on Friday, posting a time of 4:20.01. He finished the decathlon with 6,991 points, finishing second to Doane College’s Rob Keeney.
