The basketball teams at Boise State and La Salle have never played one another before.
"They don't know us, and we don't know them," laughed Broncos coach Leon Rice.
The Broncos and Explorers may not know each other, but they do know themselves.
" I can't remember a game I've coached in where where I was surprised at the similarities," said La Salle coach John Giannini. "They play four guards, and they can all dribble pass and shoot. It's the way we play."
"They play a lot of guards. They move the ball well, and they shoot the ball well," echoed Rice, "And we've both had success with it."
Boise State (21-10) finished tied for fourth in the Mountain West. La Salle (21-9) tied for third in the Atlantic 10. According to the Ratings Point Index (RPI) the Broncos are the 44th best team in the country. The Explorers are the 40th.
BSU went 10-3 out of conference with four wins over top-50 teams. La Salle finished 10-4 with two such wins.
"It's going to come down to who can execute and who can have the will to get it done over 40 minutes," said Rice. "They're going to present some problems for us defensively, and hopefully we can present some problems for them."
Tip-off between the two teams is at 7:10 MT Wednesday.
