Thor thunders back to theaters

By Spencer Blake. CREATED Nov 8, 2013

Thor thunders back into theaters this week.  Movie critic Bob Richards goes over the new titles on the big screen.

Thor: The Dark World - Disney-Marvel - Rated PG-13
PG-13-rated Thor: The Dark World continues the adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Thor and The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos...but an ancient race returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all. Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Rene Russo, and Anthony Hopkins star.

And at The Flicks…

12 Years A Slave - Fox Searchlight - Rated R
R-rated 12 Years a Slave is based on a true story of Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, who is abducted and sold into slavery in the pre-Civil War United States. Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. In the twelfth year of his unforgettable odyssey, Solomon’s chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist will forever alter his life. Chiwetel Ejiofor, (CHOO-it-tell EDGE-ee-oh-for) Brad Pitt, Paul Dano, Benedict Cumberbatch, Sarah Paulson, Michael Fassbender and Paul Giamatti star.

Wadjda - Sony Pictures Classics - Rated PG
Wadjda (Wadge-da) is the first feature film to be shot entirely in Saudi Arabia - a country where women cannot drive or vote and cinema is banned. Even more remarkably, this was made by a woman filmmaker. It's the story of a girl saving money to buy a bicycle in a country where even that simple pleasure is met with disapproval. It's in Arabic with English subtitles and is rated PG.

About Time - Universal - Rated R
And at Edwards 22 and the Villiage in Meridian, About Time is a comedy about love and time travel, which discovers that, in the end, making the most of life may not need time travel at all. It stars Rachel McAdams and Bill Nighy and is rated R.
