"Alice" like you've never seen her before

By Rachel Garceau. CREATED Apr 3, 2014

We all know the classic story of  "Alice in Wonderland": she follows the rabbit down the hole and ends up in a magical world full of crazy characters. But Ballet Idaho is taking this well-known story and putting a new twist on it.

Good Morning Idaho is taking you out and about to "Alice" done as a ballet, and it's a whole new kind of magic. Choreographer Alex Ossadnik, who created the production for Ballet Idaho, describes it as "pure fun, pure color."  It's got all the characters you know and love -- from the Cheshire Cat to the Mad Hatter to Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum -- but in this show, even the set comes alive! Dozens of kid dancers help bring the scenery to life in a really amazing way. For example, there's a table that moves all over the stage and scenery on castors that move left and right and are flipped around backwards and forwards.

It's a colorful, bright, fun production, and Ossadnik says some of the trickiest -- but best -- parts of the show are the illusions. "I think one of my favorite things is [Alice's] growing and shrinking, because you know, it's kind of a challenge: how do you make a single person grow and shrink on stage without blue screen and all the fun things that Hollywood does?" asks Ossadnik.

Ossadnik says it's the perfect ballet for people of any age, and you don't have to know anything about ballet to enjoy it.  If you'd like to go, the shows are Friday and Saturday, April 11th and 12th, at the Morrison Center on BSU's campus. Ticket info and showtimes can be found at Ballet Idaho's website here.

If you'd like to try and win tickets, tune in to Good Morning Idaho each weekday through Tuesday, April 8th. We're giving away one pair of tickets to the Friday or Saturday night performance of "Alice" every morning between 5am and 7am, so watch to learn how to win!
