Good Morning Idaho is going out and about to explore what the Treasure Valley has to offer this summer, so forget the clubs, drop the balls, and make way for golfing with a flat, round object. College students in Idaho are always looking for a way to have a good time, and the College of Western Idaho is beckoning its students outside to play disc golf.
"We administered a survey to the students early in the fall and one of the write-ins was they wanted more outdoor recreation opportunities," said CWI Student Senator Rob Ringen. "The whole process took about six or seven months, but once we actually started digging the holes And had the concrete contractors come, it probably only took a week."
The GMI team tried their hands at the game. You'll have to check out the video for that. Thanks to interest from people most likely more athletic than the GMI team, disc golfing is gaining in popularity.
"The first day that we walked and played the course, when we got here there were some people already playing it, and then by the time we were done, two other groups had arrived to play as well," Ringen said.
Although it's a nine-hole course, it still gives you plenty of room for walking.
"After you traverse it several times, it turns into a really long stretch of ground. It's a lifetime sport. Old can play. Young can play," Ringen said.
The new course is free to use and open to the public.
