An Oscar nominee, haunted fun and stoner comedy…this week on DVD and blu-ray. Bob Richards takes a look.
The Impossible - Summit entertainment - Rated PG-13
If you missed The Impossible when it was in theaters, make sure to see it now! This true story of a family caught in a tsunami is harrowing, incredible and amazing. Naomi Watts was nominated for an Oscar for her role in the film, but the entire cast is stellar, along with astonishing special effects. Bonus features include deleted scenes, commentary and two featurettes, It's My Pick of the Week!
A Haunted House - Universal - Rated R
Marlon Wayans takes on Paranormal Activity in A Haunted House, a movie that pours on the jokes fast and furious. For the most part, it's fun. It's plenty stupid, but I did laugh. Extras include a featurette.
Cheech & Chong's Animated Movie - 20th Century Fox - Rated R
If you've always dreamed of having your favorite classic Cheech and Chong routines set to animation, your dreams have come true. Cheech & Chong's Animated Movie does just that. The old recordings set to animation. It's definitely NOT for kids. Extras include three commentaries, a new routine and more.
Gangster Squad - Warner Brothers - Rated R
Gangster Squad seems almost comic at times. Is it a parody, or just bad? I lean toward thinking it's just gleeful in its excess. There is plenty of action…so much it turns into a mindless shoot 'em up. It is far from perfect, but I enjoyed it. Special features include commentary, a documentary, four featurettes and deleted scenes.
Jurassic Park 3-D - Universal - Rated PG-13
If you just saw it again in the theater in 3-D, Now you can see it again and again in your home! Yes, Jurassic Park 3-D is already on 3-D blu-ray. The disc includes 16 featurettes.
