PAYETTE, Idaho (AP) -- Authorities say a man who was injured in a shootout with an Idaho sheriff's deputy has died.
Payette County Sheriff Chad Huff told the Argus Observer that Jose M. Rodriguez-Moncada died Thursday night.
Rodriguez-Moncada and Corporal Jason Jones exchanged gunfire outside a Payette convenience store Thursday afternoon. Both men were taken by air ambulance to a Boise hospital. Jones, who was struck in the leg, was treated and released.
Huff said 24-year-old Rodriguez-Moncada was struck twice in the torso. A young boy who was inside the car driven by Rodriguez-Moncada was not injured.
Police say Rodriguez-Moncada's vehicle matched the description of one involved in an earlier incident. Witnesses reported that the driver of that car fired a handgun into the air near an elementary school in Ontario, Oregon.
